WORKUP FOR DRY EYES

What to expect to have done at the office when you come for the testing for Dry Eyes

These are the common tests and investigations that you need to have when you come for a consultation or a follow-up for a dry eye disease. These tests are arranged to get the most accurate information about your eyes in the most efficient way.  We like to do using the least number of visits to the office. Your eye health as well as your time is important to us. Some of these tests are covered by OHIP but some are not. You will be informed of the cost of any testing that you would need before it is done and you have the right to accept or refuse these test that involve extra cost. Insurance companies and ODSP/Ontario works cover some of these tests.

How To Prepare for the dry eye testing;

You have been referred you to our office with symptoms that may be caused by Ocular Surface Disease and/or meibomian gland dysfunction. To accurately assess and determine the cause of your problem, which will determine the most appropriate and effective treatment, the following steps will be necessary.

  • Patients must refrain from using any form of Artificial Tears for a minimum 18 hours prior to the appointment.
  • Patients must refrain from using any type of facial creams, lotions or makeup for a minimum of 18 hours prior to the appointment. Use of these things will affect the outcome of the analysis and give us inaccurate readings in your testing.
  • Contact lenses should not be worn for a period of 48 hours prior to the assessment.
  • Patients will have a series of tests done at the appointment.

Lipiview testing will be necessary for the Doctor to determine the cause of your symptoms. This test is not covered by OHIP. The Fee for this test is 150.00. Residents of Akwesasne should have this pre-approved for payment prior to the visit
